Botox (also known as botulinum toxin) is a very popular method for individuals who are seeking to achieve a more youthful appearance. It is a very common non-surgical cosmetic treatment, with more than 6 million Botox treatments administered each year. Botox tends to be the first choice of injectable, using Botox® Cosmetic.

What is Botox?

Botox is a drug doctors have been using for years to treat facial creases and wrinkles. The injections can be used to treat overactive bladder symptoms, neck spasms, excessive sweating,  upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infection, and lazy eye. Botox can also be used to treat chronic migraine.

The use of Botox has been shown to be clinically safe and effective.

Uses of Botox (Botulinum Toxin Injection)

In the application of cosmetics, botulinum toxin is considered relatively safe and effective. In aesthetics, botox injections are used to reduce facial wrinkles, especially in the uppermost third of the face.

In 2010, botulinum toxin has been approved for the treatment of:

    • Chronic migraine headache
    • Restricted ankle motion because of lower-limb spasticity (associated with stroke in adult patients treated)
    • Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, a condition of excessive underarm sweating
    • Muscle disorders like Strabismus (also known as improper eye alignment which is caused by imbalances in the actions of the muscles that rotate the eye)
    • Cervical dystonia
    • Diabetes mellitus
    • Overactive bladder
    • Urinary incontinence
    • Muscle or nerve conditions.
    • Neck pain.
    • Upper respiratory tract infections

Botox is a safe and non-invasive aesthetic procedure as long as it is administered by a trusted and licensed professional. All over the world, there have been many success stories with Botox treatment. Not only does Botox give you young, healthy-looking skin but it also helps improve your self-esteem and confidence.

    Botox as a Cosmetic Brand

Botox® Cosmetic is the first and only cosmetic treatment approved by the FDA to treat fine lines and wrinkles on the face and is a trusted brand in the aesthetics industry.

Aestheticians appreciate the predictable results it provides for their patients and, in a survey of patients receiving Botox Cosmetic treatments, 62% stated that they were happy with the investment they made to treat frown lines and the wrinkles in their forehead. The results are subtle to avoid the “just got work done” look.

Prescott Medical Aesthetics also offers Dysport as an alternative to Botox. Dysport is used similarly to Botox but acts much more quickly. Come see Dr. Kim Harris and decide which treatment is best for you!

A Safe and Effective Method to Looking Younger

Patients who are hesitant to try Botox will be happy to learn that it is a well-studied medication with relatively few side effects. This treatment has been around for many years and has been used for a myriad of different ailments, including migraine headaches and excessive sweating.

Botox is clinically proven to be effective worldwide as long as it is introduced into your skin by trusted medical professionals. It restores vitality to your skin and boosts your confidence and self-esteem. If you are after great well-being in general, Botox is the way to go.

Prescott Medical Aesthetics uses Botox treatments for its proven effectiveness in reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Botox works by relaxing different sets of muscles around the face to help make patients look years younger.

This treatment takes a short 15-minute appointment to complete. Patients will generally see results take effect within 24 to 48 hours. Results can last as long as up to four months.

What to do before a Botox session

Before your Botox sessions, it is important to remember a few tips:

    • Avoid alcoholic beverages one week before your appointment.
    • Don’t take anti-inflammatory medicines during the week of your Botox session.
    • Avoid eating foods that contain garlic.
    • Let your doctor know in advance of any special medications or diets you are taking before your Botox session.
    • Cleanse your skin regularly.
    • Eat healthy food.
    • There is no right or wrong time to start having Botox, as long as you are guided by a licensed botox practitioner.
    • Consult with your doctor first before you decide to have a session.

What to Expect During your Botox Appointment

A typical Botox appointment is normally 30 minutes or less depending on the areas of treatment. A series of small botox injections will be performed at each site. The number of units and injections is customized to each patient, and pain is normally minimal.

Patients should expect to have some bruising and bleeding afterward; this is a normal effect of injecting under the skin.

The Botox will start to take effect starting about 48 hours after the first treatment but will not take full effect until approximately 7 days. Treatments last 3-4 months on average.

What to Expect after your Botox session

The results of Botox injections can be observed quickly. It takes only a short period of time for muscle relaxation to happen, and in just a few days, you’ll see an amazing improvement in the fine lines and wrinkles that were treated. For most people, it takes two to three weeks to fully witness the results of Botox injections.

What you need to know is that there is no downtime or recovery time after Botox sessions. You may resume your normal routines immediately. However, it is important to know that you should not rub or massage the treated areas after the Botox treatment as the Botox material might transfer to other areas of your face.
