What does the LimeLight IPL Photofacial do?

As an alternative to laser treatments, IPL photofacial uses intense pulses of light instead of laser to treat skin redness, tiny veins, brown spots, and sun damage.

It is also known as a photofacial because the IPL procedure is like a little fashion photo shoot for your skin with the flashing of little cameras.

During the procedure, the light bypasses the layers of the epidermis which is the protective waterproof layer.

The light carefully heats problem areas within the under layer, the dermis.

Once treated, the cells begin the healing process to produce new healthier tissue with restored pigment and even tone.

Who would benefit from an IPL Photofacial Treatment?

LimeLight IPL Photofacials are customized based on your skin type and works best to treat the following imperfections:

  • Dark brown and light brown spots
  • Hyperpigmentation (Too much pigment)
  • Redness (Rosacea)
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Telangiectasia (tiny veins)
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles

How many Photofacials does it take to see results?

You may see results as quickly as 1-3 weeks of your first IPL skincare treatment. Although it may take up to three IPL photofacial treatments to achieve the desired results.

If you have more severe sun damage, more treatments may be necessary.

For the treatment of darkened spots, the skin will start to flake off and become lighter. Improvements for red skin, tiny veins, and blotchy skin will also occur.

How often can you get an IPL Photofacial Procedure?

It is advised to schedule your IPL treatments at least 4 weeks apart to allow adequate time for your skin to heal.

The photofacial works by carefully heating tissue to allow the regeneration of the skin. On average it takes about 30 days for new skin cells to be produced.

Your aesthetician will be able to tell you how many treatments are recommended depending on how your skin responds and the amount of time it takes to heal.

How to prepare for your IPL treatment

Prior to getting treated, avoid anything that will cause irritation to your skin including:

  • Face toners
  • Facial scrubs
  • Sun exposure
  • Waxing
  • Skincare products with retinol

Wash your face clean of any makeup and do not apply any moisturizer prior to the appointment. A clean face free of cosmetic products is necessary for the best results.

IPL facial treatment
What to expect

Unlike laser procedures, this method provides pulses of broad-spectrum light that will flash heat into affected areas.

A cool gel will be applied prior to the light being administered as it is expected that there will be some slight discomfort described as pinching or stinging.

The length of your procedure will usually be less than an hour.

Before the photofacial, the aesthetician will have you put on protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the light much like laser procedures.

How long does IPL take to heal?

After an IPL treatment, your skin may appear red, feel warm to the touch, and be slightly swollen from the heat that was pulsed into it.

The redness should subside within a few hours or it may last a day or so.

You will be advised to avoid direct sunlight for up to 14 days to allow your skin to properly heal.

Continue to apply sunscreen often for further protection.

How to Maintain Results

Too much time in the sun will cause the reddening of the skin, new brown spots, and tiny veins. It is best to limit UV ray exposure and to apply sunscreen daily.

Using a moisturizer with SPF on your face, neck and décolleté will prolong your results and prevent imperfections from reappearing.
