Just about everyone wants picture-perfect lips and thanks to lip fillers, everyone can have them! Lip fillers give you perfectly plump lips with fast, long-lasting results. It adds volume but can also provide lips with more shape and contour. This makes lip fillers a go-to choice for anyone that’s looking for fuller, more shapely lips.

We recently had a client come in for lip fillers to accent their already beautiful lips. See what we did for them and view the results in the following case study.

Before the lip filler treatment

Our client had beautiful lips to begin with, but wanted them to be more full. Since people can mean different things when they describe “full lips,” we ask a few questions to find out specifically what type of results they are looking to achieve. For example, are they wanting a natural look that augments their current lip shape or do they need to create greater definition for their lip’s outer border? This is why our pre-treatment conversation is a critical part of the process.

In this case, the goal was to add more volume and accentuate the shape of the lips. While we have some great tools in our toolbox for lip enhancement, Restylane Kysse is one of our top choices for lip fillers. Restylane Kysse is uniquely made for the lips with technology that allows it to provide natural-looking volume and flexible movement. It also enhances the texture and color of your lips. As it plumps up the lips, it reduces lip wrinkles to create a full, more youthful look.

During the lip filler treatment

Getting lip filler is not a time-consuming process and typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes. Of course, if you are receiving other treatments at the same time, your appointment will be longer. After we’ve discussed your goals and decided on a treatment, it’s time to get started.

First we completely clean your lips to remove traces of makeup, lipstick and lip balm. Next we put a very strong numbing ointment on your lips and let it set for 30 minutes. This might be longer than other providers, but we are all about patient comfort! Restylane Kysse also contains lidocaine for extra comfort during and post procedure. In most cases, our clients report minimal to no pain.

After the numbing ointment has done its magic, we completely wipe it off so we can inject the filler. There are multiple techniques we use to achieve the desired results. Your lips and treatment goals are the outline we follow when deciding the placement of the filler and the amount of filler we use. This is where experience comes into the picture, and why it’s so important to use a highly skilled injector for all your treatments.

During the procedure and after the procedure we massage your lips to smooth the filler out. The filler will continue to smooth out over a couple of weeks as well. This is natural as the filler settles into position.

After the lip filler treatment

After your treatment you will instantly see results, but it’s important to remember that it takes a couple weeks for everything to settle in. Our motto is don’t love them or hate them for 2 weeks! This is because it takes time for the swelling to go down and the filler to settle in and provide you the final look.

There are some things you should be prepared for after your lip filler treatment. And while your experience may vary, it is common to experience the following after you get lip filler:

Slight swelling: This resolves completely in 7-10 days, but most swelling is gone within 48 hours.

Light bruising: This resolves completely within 2 weeks.

Slight sensitivity: This typically resolves under 7 days.

Like all aesthetic treatments, it’s important to carefully follow all aftercare instructions. Your provider might include additional instructions, but the following are what we suggest to our clients after they get lip filler:

  • Avoid excessive or very strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid sweltering temperatures for at least 24 hours after treatment.
  • Use an ice pack on your lips.
  • No lipstick or Chapstick for 4 hours.

You can also take Tylenol for any discomfort and Arnica for bruising. After you reach the two week mark, your lip filler should be set in and you can fully enjoy your newly plumped lips! One of the reasons we love Restylane Kysse lip filler is that it tends to last longer for most patients. So not only is it soft and natural looking, it lasts longer. I’ve had patients go from getting Juvederm lip filler every 3-4 months to getting Restylane Kysse once or twice a year!  Of course results vary, for example patients with a high metabolism, those that are heavy exercisers tend to metabolize the product more quickly.

Lip fillers are a safe and effective way to get the full lips you’ve always wanted. The treatment is comfortable and doesn’t take too long. You will see instant results, but it does take a couple weeks to judge the final result. When looking for a provider, look for someone with experience and a good reputation!

If you have questions about getting lip filler, we’d love to hear from you!
