Are you thinking about resolutions yet? If you’re like most people, you are already thinking about the things you want to do or improve during the upcoming year. Most of the time resolutions revolve around dropping a few pounds or getting rid of bad habits, but we have an idea for you this time around. Why not include some self-care resolutions in 2023?

There’s nothing wrong with goals about losing weight or reading more, but making yourself a priority can be life-changing. So many of us spend our time and energy taking care of others that we forget about ourselves. Since we’re all about looking and feeling your best, we thought we’d share some of our favorite self-care resolutions for having a more peaceful and balanced new year.

Positive Self Care Resolutions for 2023

1. Make “me time” a non-negotiable habit

Do you spend most of your time and energy taking care of others? Many people fall into this category, especially women. Not only are we the caregivers and homemakers, but we also work and manage the entire needs of our households. This is extraordinarily draining and takes a toll on our bodies and mind. By making “me time” a requirement for 2023, you can reclaim some time and focus on things that bring you joy. It doesn’t have to be a large gesture, just reserving time for something you enjoy puts you on the right path.

2. Give yourself a break

Do you expect far more of yourself than you do from others? It’s easy to put unrealistic expectations on ourselves, especially when you consider the responsibilities and obligations we are already expected to juggle. This is an unfortunate pattern that creates undue stress and anxiety. It’s also unfair, after all, life is hard enough without expecting perfection from yourself. In 2023, make it your goal to give yourself a break. Put a couple less things on your to-do list and give yourself the same leeway and encouragement you offer to others.

3. Say three nice things to yourself every day

Do you engage in negative self-talk? Most people do and it is often so natural that you barely notice it. It could be something that seems small like “I can’t do anything right” or something cruel about your weight or appearance. No matter what level of negative self-talk it is, it is a serious problem. Negative thoughts can make you feel sad, depressed, unworthy and incapable. The power of negative thoughts is starting to be understood more fully, with studies showing the mental damage and limitations such talk can have on your life. Fight this by saying three nice things to yourself every day in 2023. It might be hard at first, but if you stick with it, it will become more natural. This can also help you break the habit of saying all the other negative things you tell yourself throughout the day.

4. Give yourself permission to treat yourself

If you have a hard time getting something for yourself, but enjoy getting things for others, you’re not alone. Many people love treating others but are reluctant to do anything for themselves. In 2023, acknowledge that you’re just as worthy of treats and pampering as those around you. Give yourself permission to buy yourself a nice meal, treat yourself to a new outfit or enjoy a massage. Maybe it is some Botox or a B12 shot for energy – whatever it is, allow yourself to enjoy it without guilt.

It’s no secret that the past few years have been difficult with unprecedented events taking place around the globe. We are all stressed out, overwhelmed and feeling uncertain about just about everything. In light of these external pressures, it makes even more sense to take the pressure off yourself whenever you can. By focusing on me-time, being nicer to yourself, and permitting yourself to enjoy treats you’ll get a positive mental boost. It might feel awkward at first, but we promise you in time you’ll be a self-care pro that helps others break their own negative habits.
